Cleaning Question

I have recently tried to switch to wooden spoons and it hasn't been an entirely successful attempt. First of all, I have to say that I don't love the way they feel. Maybe the ones I have need a little more mineral oil. The other problem I've had is getting them clean. I know you aren't supposed to soak them, but I have a real battle going with the remains of a thick potato soup that doesn't want to leave my spoons. Am I completely nuts or does anyone else have these problems? Do most of you use wooden cooking utensils or other?

i don't like using wooden utensils at all, b/c i too have a hard time keeping them clean. but when i do, i try to limit them to my olive oil based dishes, like sauteed veggies...for one it makes it easier to clean, and for two, they don't stain. but it seems kind of counter-intuitive to use wooden utensil in the first place. they tell you wooden cutting boards are porous and attract bacteria. wonder if the same is true for the wooden spoons!? i hope not! maybe we just shouldn't use them when cooking with meat.

I have gotten where I only use wooden spoons- I just love the feel. Some of mine are my grandmother's so they are worn smooth. For cleaning, I just make sure to wash as soon as I am done with them- sometimes I scrub with a rough pad. Mine have also accidentally gone into the dishwasher (thanks Hubs), and it didn't seem to harm them.

Farrell....have used wooden utensils all our married life and as you know that involves quite a few years!! Have always put them in the dishwasher with excellent results. If one finally cracks, that gives you a good excuse to get new!Love,Gramma E.
