I worked my first event this weekend- a $500,000 bar mitzvah. Orders were given to the wait staff to take away the family style platters of food when they were halfway finished. They were then replaced with full plates. Needless to say, there was a LOT of uneaten food. My boyfriend has always said there should be a non-profit that goes in after charity events and major parties to take away leftover food and distribute it to the needy. Does anyone know of a program like this? I think it's a great idea, and would probably result in a ton of food, especially in places like New York...

we always have people comment on this at our corporate events, too. sadly most homeless shelters and out reach programs cannot accept the food because of health restrictions. i have seen people ask for "to go" containers and then just give the food to homeless on the streets after they exit events.
it is always amazing how much goes to waste!
ohhh, do you have pictures?
You should try your food bank or large shelter. Here in Atlanta there are programs set up which take the food from the restaurants or events and take deliver to the shelters. Usually it is connected to some larger organization.
I do not have pictures, but there were really gorgeous rose runners that went down all the tables. If I can get some pictures together I will definitely post!
