Rugs!

Having recently moved from a fully carpeted apartment to a SFH that is 95% lovely hardwood floors, we are in desperate need of rugs for a majority of our home.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to purchase affordable, but good quality rugs for living rooms, dining rooms, etc?

I do, I do!!! You won't be able to get as good of a deal as I did, but I just bought 4 rugs for my new house at the QVC outlet up here in the Philly suburbs. They were 60% off the on air price, but even that is reasonable. They are Royal Palace Rugs and I LOVE mine. They are thick and certainly nicer than any of the "cheaper" alternatives I looked into (Lowe's, Ikea). You know, you could always come up and visit me and I'll take you to the outlet! Or you can check them out online. My mom has very expensive rugs in her house and even liked mine. :)

There is an oriental rug shop in Charlottesville (Rug Depot or something - on 29N across from Wal-Mart) that is constantly having a sale. If you like oriental/persian rugs, they have great deals and the rugs are a great quality. We bought 3 area rugs from them last summer for under $500 total.

The end of the month auctions at Motley's in Richmond can be a great source for rugs. They usually have orientals but sometimes have others. There is always a two day preview in the showroom, an on-line catalog, and you can leave an absentee bid. Depending on who attends the auctions (& what else is being sold), you can pick up some really good deals. I bought two 4 x 6 Karastans (very doggy proof) there for under $100 last year.

If you have a Home Goods nearby, that may be an option.
