Wedding Wednesday: Blame it on the Alcohol....

"It" being the blown wedding budget. How many of you chose the flat per person rate for alcohol at your wedding? How many of you paid per drink? How did it work out? Did you estimate correctly?

My situation is different since my wedding was at my home- so we did not have liquor just beer and wine. However, got those through a friend who owns a liquor store, and a family friend who is the local Bud distributor.

for our wedding (and most of my work events that are a similar format), we paid the flat fee for the first 4-5 hours and then switched to an on-consumption tab. by the end of the night, some people have left and some are not drinking as much, so turning it over to a per-drink basis at that point usually ends up saving $$ in the end.
just my two cents!

We did a flat rate charge. Let's say that some of my husband's friends know how to have a good time, so for them, I think we definitely got a good deal. We opted not to do all top shelf liquors, but selected 1-2 popular names and used house brands for the rest. If I had to do it over, I would probably do beer, wine & one signature cocktail.

I agree with the part package, part consumption idea. We did that for my parents' anniversary party and it worked well.

We had ours at a winery, so we estimated the cases of wine to order. Someone came up to me during the salad course of our dinner and said they were completely out of white wine, even when we had gone over their suggested estimate of cases. So I authorized 2 more cases to be opened - only to have my mom go to the winery the next day and find a left over case of chardonnay. oh well! sorry, this actually wasn't very helpful

We supplied our own alcohol which saves a ton of money but it is kind of a pain in the butt. We did end up some leftover so I guess we got the amount right!
